bookindyBrowse Amazon then buy from your local bookstore

If you love books then you will probably love bookstores as well. In recent years online book retailers like Amazon have lured readers away from independent bookstores with their keen pricing and next day delivery option. Over time the number of readers who visit local independent bookstores has fallen leaving these local retailers lost for ideas on how to win back their customers.

Now help is at hand in the form of a new third party tool called bookindy.com.

What is Bookindy?

When you download the Bookindy Chrome Extension on your PC or laptop it will add a new feature whenever you visit Amazon to search for books. Now every time you click on a book on Amazon, as well as showing the normal Amazon price, you will be shown the price the book is available at your local independent bookstore. You can then decide either to collect the book from the store or have it delivered. The tool was developed by a programmer keen on trying to help support local bookstores in the face of  the dominance of Amazon.

Why is buying from an independent bookstore better than Amazon?

Local bookstores are great places to visit, they employ local people and are part of your local community. Therefore it makes sense to do your bit and support them.

How many local bookstores have signed up to Bookindy?

Bookindy have hundreds of bookstores signed up to their scheme and are adding more every month.

Is Bookindy cheaper then Amazon?

Local independent bookstores do often have cheaper prices than Amazon and Bookindy can compare prices quickly as it works every time you search for a book. Even if the local bookstore price is slightly more expensive you may want the convenience of collecting the book the same day by popping into the store.

Can I get books delivered for free?

Yes you can. Standard delivery is always free and next day delivery is free if you spend over £10 in a single order.
