What is the Help for Households campaign and who does it help?

Help for Households campaign

In the face of rising living costs and the increasing number of families facing financial hardship, a number of businesses have joined the government's 'Help for Households' campaign by offering discounts for goods and services to help those households, worse affected.

What discounts are available with the Help for Households campaign?

The government campaign, 'Help for Households' is an initiative that aims to lessen the financial strain caused by rising energy costs and inflation. The initiative will provide savings for households through the summer period and into September this year. The summer period is usually a period that exacerbates hardship when children are at home and families feel the financial pressure of providing more meals and entertainment than they would during the school year.

The initiative has garnered support from a range of businesses including supermarkets, Theatres in London and mobile phone and broadband providers, all looking to extend discounts and special offers to low-income households to help with the rising cost of living.

What businesses are supporting the Help for Households campaign?

David Buttress, ex-CEO of Just Eats and the government's current Cost-of-Living business Tsar has agreed deals with companies including Sainsbury's, Vodafone, Amazon, Morrisons and Asda. Theatres in London also participate in the scheme to provide opportunities for families to enjoy productions at a fraction of the usual cost.

What support are businesses providing through Help for Households?

  • Sainsbury's - launches "Feed your family for a fiver" which shares a collection of meal ideas that cost only £5 per meal for a family of four.
  • Asda - kids will eat for just £1 in Asda's cafes when eating with an adult.
  • Morrisons - children will eat for free when eating with a paying adult.
  • Vodafone - the VOXI for Now offering from Vodafone allows people on benefits to access a social tariff giving them unlimited 5G data as well as texts and calls.
  • Amazon - a page on amazon.co.uk will link to a number of free resources for Amazon customers to access free music, television viewing, learning resources and value groceries.
  • West End shows in London - children will be able to enjoy many West End productions for free when accompanying a paying adult.

How long will the Help for Households deals continue?

The special offers and deals are to be launched in time for the duration of the school summer holidays with efforts to add more retailers continuing. The support is then to be extended as the campaign pivots to continue offering deals through the 'back to school' period as well as in the run-up to Christmas which is another period of financial strain on families and those on benefits.
