Tesco Clubcard vouchers set to expire: what action should you take?

Tesco ShopTesco customers are being warned to spend soon-to-expire Clubcard vouchers before the end of the month, with £17m of unused vouchers in circulation. The Clubcard vouchers in question were issued in May 2020 and expire after 2 years, which means they need to be used before midnight on 31 May.

The supermarket recently changed its Clubcard scheme and now, rather than Tesco automatically issuing paper statements and vouchers, customers have to check their balance online. With the majority of members not choosing to opt-in to continuing to receive paper statements, more vouchers than usual are at risk of being unredeemed as customers forget to use them.

How do I know if my Tesco Clubcard vouchers are going to expire?

If you think you may have unspent Clubcard vouchers dating back to May 2020, you can check by logging on to your My Clubcard account, which allows you to check the expiry dates. The vouchers are issued once every 3 months, in February, May, August and November, so it would cover spending in the 3 months before May of that year. You can also use the Tesco app to check the status of your vouchers.

Following the move away from paper statements, vouchers are instead sent to the registered email address and can also be viewed on the My Clubcard account or app. Users need to simply scan the barcode at the checkout. Shoppers that prefer to receive paper statements can opt to do so via the preferences in the My Clubcard account or app.

How to avoid losing out on expiring Tesco Clubcard vouchers

If you have Tesco Clubcard vouchers that are due to expire, you can extend their life by using them to make a small purchase before midnight on 31 May. The balance of the voucher will be credited to your account and you will be issued with a new voucher that is valid for a further 2 years. For example, if you have a £10 voucher, buy something for £1, you will get new vouchers for the £9 balance.
