Of the 30 funds in December's BOTB, 15 funds have retained their place in January’s selection. The chart below shows the performance of the BOTB against a benchmark that is calculated using the respective sector averages for each fund in the BOTB and assuming the same asset mix. The BOTB finished December in positive territory but it underperformed its benchmark. To give that further context a typical professionally managed multi-asset fund from the Mixed Investment 40-85% Shares sector made 1.63% in December. The BOTB was hampered by its exposure to technology stocks and gilts which struggled after the Bank of England raised interest rates and the US Federal Reserve took a more hawkish stance.

The first table below shows the top-performing funds within the BOTB for the month of December:

Fund December % return Fidelity Global Property 4.16 Royal London Sustainable Leaders Trust 3.88 Schroder Global Cities Real Estate 3.61 Fidelity Index US 2.79 Stewart Investors Indian Subcontinent Sustainability 2.71 VT Chelsea Managed Monthly Income 2.54 SVS SVS Brooks Macdonald Defensive Capital 2.03

At the other end of the spectrum, the worst performers are shown below.
