Here are my top 10 smartphone apps with help for those on the move:

Rightmove - free

By far the biggest and most comprehensive property portal also has an excellent app. The layout is excellent and it allows you to search for properties quickly according to your criteria. All properties are shown with a selection of photographs and full details. The app covers both sale and rental properties.

Kirstie and Phil's House Hunter - £2.99

Billed as the ultimate guide to buying a home. Packed with video guides and audio tips taking you through every step of the house buying process. Contains detailed advice on finance, mortgages, dealing with agents and much more.

AroundMe - free

Helps you to find what is in your location quickly and easily. When you are searching for a property in an unfamiliar area you can find out the distance to the nearest hospital, cinema or supermarket amongst others things.

UK Mortgage Calculators - free

5 mortgage calculators in one app including - How much can I borrow?, Monthly payment calculator and Remortgage comparison calculator. Simple and easy to use and a great help in getting an understanding of the finances of your house move.

Council Tax - free

Find out the valuation band and approximate council tax amount for individual properties by postcode. Available for England only

Snug - free

Snug makes renting a home easy with properties to rent constantly updated together with photographs. Totally free with no agents involved,  you just deal direct with the landlord.

Home of property search for unmodernised properties in the UK. If you are looking for a property to 'do up' then this is a good starting point with plenty to pick from in most areas.

Test the broadband speed in properties you are interested in from your mobile phone.

Crime Map England & Wales

See where crime and anti-social behaviour is occurring. Great for house hunters checking out the best places to live. Crimes are shown as soon as police publish the information which could be 1-2 months after the incident.
