Tesco customers will be able to earn Clubcard points at double the usual rate for the next seven weeks, the supermarket giant has announced. This is the first time in more than ten years that Tesco has introduced a 'double-points' offer for its Clubcard members. The retail giant expects more than 10 billion Clubcard points to be earned during the offer period that lasts from 8 January 2024 to 25 February 2024.
The special offer applies to almost all purchases across Tesco’s range of retail stores, including its petrol stations, cafés and online store.
To ensure they collect the full amount of points they are entitled to during the offer period, Clubcard members will need to scan their Clubcard at the till when they pay in store or make sure their online account is linked to their Clubcard account when they order groceries online.
Tesco shoppers are usually able to earn one Clubcard point for every £1 they spend in store or online, or one point for every two litres of fuel purchased at a Tesco petrol station. The limited-time offer will double this to two points per £1 spent or two litres of fuel bought.
Where you will not earn double Clubcard points
There are a few areas excluded from the double-up offer. Tesco would usually allow Clubcard members to earn points with Tesco Bank, Tesco Mobile, Tesco Photo, Esso Fuel, Evri, Waves, Inkjet, Halfords Motoring Club, Tesco surveys and international calling, but these points will not double up during the offer period.
Additionally, there are products sold by Tesco that do not usually earn Clubcard points for members who buy them and this will continue to be the case during the double-points promotion period. These include tobacco or tobacco-related products, lottery products, stamps, prescription medicines, infant formula milk, gift cards, saving stamps, in-store concessions and some alcohol purchases in Northern Ireland.
Spending Clubcard points
Clubcard members can put their points towards money off vouchers with a huge range of retailers offering meals out, day trips, streaming services, clothes and even holidays. Alternatively, they can be used to get money off your next Tesco grocery shop or fuel purchase.
Once a Clubcard member has collected 150 points, these can be exchanged for £1.50 in Tesco vouchers or for a range of different vouchers and offers online. Anyone taking advantage of the double-up scheme can expect to see their vouchers in either their February or May Clubcard statement.
The best way to use Clubcard points is often to spend with one of Tesco’s ‘Rewards Partners’. These are companies that double the value of your points and range from Disney Plus and Alton Towers Resorts, to Cineworld and Pizza Express. You can see how many Clubcard points you currently have by logging in to your online account.
How to continue earning more Clubcard points after 25 February
There are ways to continue earning more than the standard one Clubcard point per £1 spend even after the current offer period ends. For example, you could earn five points for every £4 spent at Tesco using a Tesco credit card. This is better than the standard rate, but keep in mind that it will not be doubled as part of the double-points deal.
Tesco offers a range of different credit cards, but they are particularly useful for anyone looking to build up their credit score. You can check out our review of the Tesco Foundation credit card here, which is our best credit-building credit card for January 2024.
