If you are aged over 60 you will almost certainly be entitled to claim the Winter Fuel Payment from the government....
To quote the Directgov website - the purpose of the Winter Fuel Payment is to help the over 60's pay for keeping warm in winter. The amount of the payment you will receive can be between £125 and £400 depending on your situation.
The main eligibility criteria for the 2009-10 winter is that you were aged 60 or over on any day between 21-27 September 2009. If you have not received the payment previously you will likely have to submit a claim. But hurry you only have until the 30th March to claim it!
