What does ManyPets pet insurance cover?
ManyPets offers 7 pet insurance policies for cats and dogs. ManyPets pet insurance policies are lifetime annual limit pet insurance policies which means that you can claim up to your policy limit each year before the limit resets again the following year. Lifetime pet insurance policies are considered the most comprehensive on the market. As long as you renew your policy every year, your pet will be insured for its whole life and for any new conditions that occur.
Other types of cover that are not offered by ManyPets are time-limited, maximum benefit or accident-only pet insurance policies. More information on these can be found in our article 'What are the different types of pet insurance?'
ManyPets offers a 15% multi-pet discount for pets on all their policies.
We briefly summarise the different ManyPets policies below:
ManyPets Complete Care policy
The most comprehensive of the ManyPets pet insurance policies. It offers up to £15,000 or £20,000 of vet fee cover that renews annually. ManyPets' Complete Care policy also offers dental cover as a result of an illness or injury.
ManyPets Standard Care policy
The ManyPets Standard Care policy offers up to £7,000 or £10,000 of vet fee cover that renews annually. Like the Complete Care policies, dental cover for illness and injury is included.
ManyPets Essential Care policy
This is ManyPets' cheapest lifetime cover policy which offers up to £3,000 or £5,000 of veterinary fee cover which renews annually. This policy is the most basic, and only provides cover for dental if due to an accident. Other differences include no farwell cover or cover for prescribed food.
ManyPets Pre-existing condition policy
ManyPets has a pre-existing condition policy that is specifically designed to cover any pre-existing conditions that your pet has. ManyPets classes a pre-existing condition as ‘anything that your pet has received treatment, medication or advice for in the last 24 months’. If your pet has not suffered from the condition in the last 24 months then it is no longer considered a pre-existing condition and you can choose from ManyPets Complete, Standard or Essential Care policies.
ManyPets' pre-existing condition policy provides up to £7,000 vet fee cover with up to £1,500 of that limit for pre-existing conditions each year as long as your pet has not received treatment, medication or advice for the condition within 3 months prior to taking out the policy. Once the pre-existing condition has been free from medication, treatment or advice for 24 months it will no longer be classed as pre-existing and will be covered by the £7,000 vet fee limit. New conditions are covered up to £7,000 each year with this policy.
There are some pre-existing conditions that ManyPets will not cover, these are chronic conditions and pre-existing bi-lateral conditions, it is essential you check the policy handbook or speak to someone at ManyPets before taking out a policy if you're unsure if your pet's pre-existing condition will be covered.
ManyPets pet insurance policies
ManyPets has 7 policies to choose from on their website. Below is a comparison table that summarises the key differences between the policies.
If you take out a ManyPets pet insurance policy and then wish to cancel the policy you can do so within the 14-day cooling-off period to get a full refund, as long as you have not made a claim. After this, if you pay monthly they will not take any further payments from the date you ask for your plan to stop and if you paid for your policy on an annual basis, ManyPets will refund the unused portion of the pet insurance policy. If you have made a claim however you will need to pay the full premium before cancelling. You may also be charged an administration fee for cancelling.
There is the opportunity to get 20% of your annual premium back each year if you do not make a claim on your policy. To benefit from this you need to add the MoneyBack add-on when getting a quote. This applies to all policies, excluding the Pre-existing condition policy.

ManyPets pet insurance policy exclusions
In this section of the review, we detail some of the exclusions for a ManyPets pet insurance policy. This list is not extensive so it is important that you thoroughly check your policy documents for any exclusion, as not doing so could prevent a claim from being paid. ManyPets' policy documents also state that you must have your pet seen regularly by a vet for annual vaccination, health and dental check-ups. Below is a list of the exclusions in a ManyPets pet insurance policy.
A ManyPets pet insurance policy excludes cover for the following:
- Dogs or cross-breed of dogs listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 as well as dogs that appear similar to the dogs in this list such as American Bulldogs and American Staffordshire Bull Terriers. XL Bully dogs and any dog that meets the UK Government's definition of an XL bully are not covered. Other breeds such as Cane Corso, Saarloos Wolfhounds, Czech Wolfdogs or other Wolf hybrids aren't covered either. You can see the full list of dog breeds that aren't covered here.
- Pets used for guarding, racing, fighting or coursing
- Pets under 4 weeks old
- Pets used to earn money or in connection with any business
- Preventative treatments or treatments not prescribed by a vet
- Pets that have been pregnant or given birth at least 3 times
- Pre-existing conditions unless you have a pre-existing policy (ManyPets' definition of a pre-existing condition)
Waiting period
If you are opening a new policy with ManyPets then there are some restrictions for the first 14 days of the policy. If you are renewing your policy or you were previously insured with another provider for a minimum of 12 months these restrictions do not apply:
- No claim will be paid for an accident treated within 48 hours of opening the policy
- If your pet passes away due to illness within 14 days of opening the policy
- If your pet requires any treatment within 14 days of opening the policy
If your pet has an accident or illness within these waiting periods then they will not be covered and the condition will then be classed as pre-existing for the following 12 months. If you add a pet to an existing policy with ManyPets then these waiting periods apply to the pet that is being added.
How much does ManyPets pet insurance cost?

ManyPets policy excess
ManyPets allows you to adjust your policy excess on your pet insurance policy. This gives you the opportunity to reduce your monthly pet insurance premium by selecting a higher policy excess. The policy excess is the amount you are expected to pay in the event of a claim so you should consider something that is affordable for you.
You can choose between the following policy excesses: £69, £99, £130, £160 and £250 however the £250 excess option is not available for the ManyPets Pre-existing policy. If you make a liability claim there is a £250 policy excess.
There is also the option to pay a 10% or 20% co-payment. This means that you will have to pay 10% or 20% of the remaining claim once your excess is paid. For example if you make a claim for £1,000, and your excess is £250 and you have a 10% co-payment you will need to pay the £250 excess plus £75 co-payment so £325 in total. Pets over the age of 7 will have a compulsory minimum 20% co-payment.
A ManyPets policy excess is only paid once a policy year if you claim and you will not be charged for any subsequent claims later in the policy year. However any co-payment will apply to each claim made.
How to make a claim with ManyPets pet insurance
The easiest way to make a claim with ManyPets is to ask your vet to claim on your behalf via the ManyPets Vet Portal. If your vet practise is not signed up to the portal then you can claim yourself by logging into your account. Once logged in, click "make a claim" and upload your supporting documents.
You can also claim via email, [email protected] or over the phone if you prefer. The number is 0345 646 1213 and is manned Monday to Friday 9am to 5:45pm and Saturdays 9am to 12:45pm.
To increase your chances of a claim being paid you must ensure that your pet has an annual check-up, an annual dental check-up and regular vaccinations. If you do not follow this then ManyPets may refuse to pay out your claim. Claims should be submitted as soon as possible and must be submitted within six months of each treatment date or they won't be paid, it is worth noting that policies that were taken out or renewed before 1st August 2024 have 12 months to submit their claim but this will change to six months when their policy renews.
ManyPets will contact your vet on your behalf, if they require more information than you have provided. When submitting your claim you can choose if you wish to be paid or pay your vet directly but it is best to check with your vet that they accept payments from insurers first.
ManyPets customer reviews
ManyPets is rated as 'Excellent' on Trustpilot with a score of 4.5 stars out of 5.0 from over 32,500 reviews. 72% rate the provider as 'Excellent' citing a quick claims process, with some payments being received within 24 hours and the usefulness of having access to a 27/4 vet service. However 16% of users rate ManyPets as 'Bad' with most users complaining of increases in their premium when it comes to renewal and customers are complaining of long delays of claims being processed.
Some customers who have rated the company as 'Bad' have complained about claims not being paid out due to exclusions on the policy, long waits for claims to be paid and high renewal prices. It is important to check your policy documents carefully to ensure you know exactly what is covered as well as how much you are expected to pay should you need to claim. One thing to consider is that ManyPets only offers lifetime pet insurance which is one of the more expensive pet insurance policy types, if you were looking to reduce the cost of your premium read our article, 'How much does pet insurance cost?'.

Alternatives to ManyPets pet insurance
There are lots of alternatives to ManyPets and it's always worth getting several quotes before committing to a particular company. One of the easiest ways to save time and money on your pet insurance is to look on a comparison website such as MoneySuperMarket*. Comparison sites let you compare several providers simultaneously to ensure you're getting the best insurance policy for your pet. One thing to consider, however, is that not all comparison sites are whole of market so you may be able to get a better deal elsewhere.
Admiral
Unlike ManyPets, Admiral offers time-limited pet insurance as well as lifetime insurance. Admiral's time-limited insurance policies offer cover for 12 months from when the symptoms from an accident and illness first begin. Once the veterinary limit is used up or the 12 months have lapsed, you won't be able to claim for the condition anymore. However, you can claim for new conditions. For more information on time-limited pet insurance read our article, 'Time-limited pet insurance explained'. This type of pet insurance is often a cheaper option especially compared to lifetime insurance as the cover is not as comprehensive. Admiral offers a good choice of lifetime cover, with a maximum vet fee cover of £10,000 a year compared to £20,000 with ManyPets. You can find out more about Admiral pet insurance in our independent review.
Petgevity
Petgevity* only offers lifetime pet insurance and are an alternative to ManyPets if you are looking to insure a pet with a pre-existing condition. Petgevity offer vet fee cover of up to £15,000 per year even if your pet has a pre-existing condition. You must declare any conditions when obtaining a quote and you will be given an automatic decision on whether your pet can be covered or not. Even if the condition is not covered, Petgevity will offer an insurance policy with the pre-existing condition excluded. You have a choice of excess option with Petgevity as well as the choice to pay a co-payment or not and there is no compulsory co-payment as your pet ages. You can find out more about Petgevity in our independent review.

Summary
ManyPets offers a good choice of cover for pet owners looking for a lifetime insurance policy especially for pets with a pre-existing condition. Flexible excess options as well as an optional co-payment will help manage insurance premiums. They feature a single annual excess payment where you only have to pay once per policy year even if you are claiming for different conditions, a 20% no-claims refund on select policies, and continuous cover for those switching providers. If you have multiple pets there is a generous 15% discount when you take out more than one policy.
It's important to note that that ManyPets will not pay out for the death of your pet due to illness once they reach 9 years old and there is also a compulsory 20% co-payment on every claim when your pet is 7 years old or over. As with all insurance policies, it is important to shop around and compare a number of providers to find the best policy and price for your pet.
