Biscuit by Zopa review – is it the best App only bank?

5 min Read Published: 28 May 2026

Zopa, a digital bank with around 1.5 million customers, offers an app-only current account alongside its savings products. Biscuit by Zopa boasts features like fee-free spending abroad and approximately £242 in cashback and interest per year. It's also completely free to open.

The account unlocks access to Zopa's Smart Saver, which was voted one of the best savings providers at the 2025 British Bank Awards. The Smart Saver allows customers to save up to £250,000 in personalised savings pots across easy access, notice, and fixed-term bonds. Some of the savings pots on offer also come with boosted rates. In addition, customers can access Zopa's loan and credit products.

The bank account offers a mobile-first experience, allowing customers to link their external accounts within the Zopa App. This means they can manage their money and make payments from one place, rather than having to switch between providers. Additionally, Zopa has recently introduced a voice assistant that lets you move money, request cash, and make payments hands-free.

Merve Ferrero, Chief Strategy Officer at Zopa, said: “Many of us spread our money across different providers — holding it with high street banks, moving some into savings or investments, and spending through neo-banks.

"We do this because we want safety, good value, and convenience at no extra cost. But no single bank meets all these needs in one place. Zopa Bank aims to change that with Biscuit - delivering great value across everyday spending and saving, all through one seamless App experience.”

Zopa is a digital-only challenger bank which holds a full UK banking license, allowing it to meet the same regulatory standards as a high street bank. The online bank also comes with FSCS protection, where up to £85,000 of your deposits are protected.

What is the new Biscuit by Zopa current account?

Zopa's new current bank account is a mobile-first bank account which you can open via the Zopa app. The account comes with a range of features, including:

  • Cashback - For a limited time, customers can earn 4% cashback on up to £2,000 of Direct Debits per year. This rate is guaranteed for 12 months from the date of opening.
  • Interest on current account balance - Biscuit pays 2% AER interest on your current account balance, and there's no limit on the interest you can earn. This rate is fixed for 12 months and becomes variable after that.
  • Fee-free spending abroad - You can use your debit card abroad without incurring extra charges
  • Easy access Cash ISA - Flexible Cash ISA that pays 3.25% AER (variable)
  • Regular Saver - Biscuit's Regular Saver pays a variable interest rate of 7.10% AER, which we discuss in more detail below.
  • Easy access Saver - Biscuit's Easy Access Saver pays a variable interest rate of 2.95% AER on savings up to £250,000 below

Many high street banks offer similar features; however, in many cases, features like interest on current accounts and fee-free spending abroad are reserved for bank accounts that come with monthly fees. This is where Zopa shines, as the account is free.

However, Zopa may not be right for everyone. The bank account is app-based and part of a digital bank. This means there are no physical branches you can go to for help if this is valuable to you.

In addition, Zopa is not yet part of the Current Account Switch Service (CASS). This means you can't easily switch your existing bank account into a new Biscuit current account. You would need to perform a manual switch or open a separate bank account.

Zopa Regular Saver with 7.1% interest

Zopa's Biscuit customers can benefit from a Regular Saver with 7.1% AER on a £300 deposit each month. The rate is variable for 6 months with the option to renew if available.

It is worth understanding how this deal works because it can end up paying more overall interest than other accounts that offer a higher rate. For example, Principality previously offered a regular saver account with a 7.5% AER interest rate. However, the maximum you can deposit is £200 per month, and the rate only lasts for six months. Assuming the rate doesn't change and you save the maximum allowed, you would earn around £25 in interest.

In contrast, Zopa's Biscuit account could yield £137 in interest over 12 months, assuming the rate doesn't change after 6 months and you save the maximum allowed each month. As such, it makes it one of the most attractive regular savings accounts on the market.

Zopa Easy Access Cash ISA Pot

For customers looking to shield their savings from tax, Zopa offers a flexible Smart ISA built seamlessly into the same app used for the Biscuit current account. Rather than having to open a completely separate ISA platform, Biscuit users can simply set up an Access ISA Pot within the app's Smart Savings Hub. You enjoy instant access to your funds, meaning there are no penalties or lock-in periods if you need to withdraw your cash in an emergency. It currently pays 3.25% AER (variable) and you can open an easy access Cash ISA pot with as little as £1.

Zopa Easy Access Savings Account

Zopa's easy-access savings account offers instant access to your savings and pays a rate of 2.95% AER (variable). You can deposit any amount between £1 and £250,000 and the interest is paid gross which may be taxable depending on your tax situation.
