H&M to start charging for online returns - how to avoid the charges

Fashion retailer H&M has announced that non-members wishing to return online orders will now be charged for doing so, even when returning the item in-store. However, if your online order is damaged or faulty you will not be charged the return fee but you must ensure you declare this when raising the return.

H&M is the latest retailer to start charging customers for return items and joins  Next, Zara and online retailer Boohoo; stores that already charge customers for online returns. With a number of popular retailers now charging shoppers to return their items, online shopping may become less desirable for those looking to make a quick purchase.

How much are H&M charging for online returns?

H&M has announced it will charge customers £1.99 to return online orders both in-store and online. This means that if you purchase an item that you do not like or it does not fit, you will be charged £1.99 to return the order via post or in-store. If the item you have purchased is faulty, or you have received an incorrect order, you will not be charged a fee for returning your order.

How to return an online H&M order

Your H&M order can be returned for a refund within 28 days of purchase as long as it is in a resaleable condition. If you have purchased your item in-store it can only be returned to a H&M store. If your item was purchased online, it can be returned both in-store or online but there will be a £1.99 fee which will be taken from your refund amount.
