Morrisons has introduced a new loyalty scheme – called the More Card – in an effort to keep up with similar plans from competitors Tesco and Sainsbury’s. More Card users will be able to access personalised special offers, pay less for some products and earn points when they buy certain items.
Rachel Eyre, Chief Customer and Marketing Officer at Morrisons, said: “The new More Card – which replaces the My Morrisons scheme – will enable customers to earn points on selected purchases, including fuel, and redeem those points for fivers off their shopping. The card will also give customers access to exclusive More Card prices with market-leading discounts on customers’ favourites.”
In this article, we look at how the Morrisons More scheme works, how you can earn Morrisons More points and how the scheme compares to Nectar and Clubcard.
What is the Morrisons More scheme?
Morrisons More, the new loyalty programme launched by Morrisons, will replace the My Morrisons scheme and works with a physical card or through the app. It is being introduced after successful trials in select stores in 2023. Users of the old My Morrisons app will be able to use the same login details to access the new More Card app, and their card number will remain the same.
The scheme allows Morrisons shoppers to earn points on select products in-store or online as well as on fuel purchased at a Morrisons petrol station. Some customers will also receive an extra bonus when they scan their More Card app or swipe their card at the checkout. This bonus could be money off their shop or a free treat. Cardholders may also get occasional surprises, such as flowers for Mother’s Day or sweet treats for Halloween.
The Morrisons Fiver scheme will be returning too. Once a user saves 5,000 points on their More Card account, they will receive a Morrisons Fiver. This can be redeemed on a future shop, in-store or online. However, if users don't want to redeem the £5 voucher they can keep the points and redeem them for a larger purchase at a later date.
How can you earn Morrisons More points?
You earn Morrisons More points for spending on qualifying products and how many points you will earn varies depending on the product you are buying. For example, offers this week include 100 More Points for every five pack of doughnuts, 500 More Points for every £5 spent at the pizza counter, 600 More Points for every £6 spent in a Morrisons café and 100 More Points for every British BBQ meat pack from the butcher’s counter.
Cardholders can also earn 5 points for every litre of fuel purchased in a Morrisons petrol filling station, but this does exclude franchise petrol stations.
Morrisons More cardholders will also benefit from exclusive offers. Examples include one-litre bottles of spirits for £17, a packet of Pringles for £1.25 and 20% off at the fresh fish counter on a Friday. Additionally, scanning your card or app means you can win a 'Basket Bonus' which could be money off your shopping or a free treat.
How does the Morrisons More Card compare to Nectar and Clubcard?
The launch of the scheme follows similar programmes from Morrison’s main rivals. The Nectar scheme was recently revamped by Sainsbury’s to more closely match how the Tesco Clubcard works. Morrisons appear to be following suit with the More Card programme. The setup can be frustrating for some customers – especially if you forget your loyalty card or phone – but is popular with others who feel like they are saving money.
