  • Primary Responsibility with Retailer: When encountering problems with package deliveries (such as missing or damaged items), the primary responsibility lies with the retailer, not the delivery firms. Consumers are advised to contact the retailer first.
  • Retailer's Obligations: Retailers are responsible for ensuring that goods are delivered intact. They must handle refunds and arrange replacement deliveries if necessary. Consumers are entitled to a full refund for non-delivered or damaged items and shouldn't have to wait excessively during investigations between the retailer and the delivery firm.
  • Unauthorised Delivery Locations: If a parcel is left in an unauthorised location (with a neighbour, in communal areas, unsecured areas, outside the door and then stolen, or if it's broken or damaged), the consumer should contact the retailer for a resolution.
  • Safe spaces Consumers should be cautious about designated 'safe spaces' for deliveries. For instance, preferences set with big retailers like Amazon might be used for subsequent deliveries. It's advised to regularly check and update delivery preferences.
  • Delivery Dates and Timescales: Under consumer law, goods should be delivered on or around the date provided at the time of order. If no date was given, the retailer must deliver within 30 days of the order. Consumers are entitled to refunds for missed delivery dates, especially if they paid extra for specific timing.
