The Insurance Emporium's maximum benefit pet insurance covers the cost of veterinary treatment up to £7,500 per illness or injury. For example, your pet will be insured for up to £7,500 per condition. The Insurance Emporium has three maximum benefit pet insurance policies ranging from Bronze, Silver and Gold with the option to pay lunar monthly (every 28 days) or annually. The policy features differ slightly depending which option you choose.

Lifetime
Insurance Emporium's offers two types of lifetime pet insurance; annual limit and annual condition limit. Annual limit lifetime pet insurance covers your pet for a set amount per year and the cover then renews annually, even if you have made a claim. Annual condition limit lifetime pet insurance covers your pet for a set amount per condition per year. The level of veterinary fee cover then renews again the following policy year, even if you have made a claim.
Insurance Emporium's annual condition limit lifetime insurance covers the cost of veterinary treatment up to an annual amount of £8,000 per illness or injury. So your pet will be insured for up to £8,000 per condition per year and the limit will renew each year for the duration of the policy. Alternatively, you can also get annual limit lifetime pet insurance with cover up to £6,000 per year. This means that you can claim for multiple conditions until the £6,000 limit is met, after this you will need to self-fund any additional treatment until the limit renews the following year.
The Insurance Emporium has seven lifetime pet insurance policies ranging from Bronze to Palladium with the option to pay Lunar monthly (every 28 days) or annually. There is also an option for annual policies with monthly payments and the policy features differ slightly depending which option you choose.

The Insurance Emporium policy excess
The Insurance Emporium has a policy excess that is payable when you make a claim and is subject to change each year along with the premium. The policy excess varies depending on the policy you pick, the level of cover you choose and the type and breed of your pet. An example of the policy excesses can be seen in the above tables, but these are based on mixed-breed dogs and cats and so may vary depending on the breed.
The Insurance Emporium's Lifetime Bronze, Silver and Gold policies have a percentage co-payment payable in addition to the policy excess. A co-payment is a percentage contribution towards the vet fees when you make a claim. This is 10% of the veterinary fees up until the total amount of fees claimed reaches £20,000, a 25% co-payment is required thereafter for pets under 8 years old.
For pets over the age of 8, a co-payment of 25% is required on the Accident only, Time Limited, Maximum Benefit and all the Lifetime policies.

Alternatives to The Insurance Emporium pet insurance
In this section of the review, we compare Agria pet insurance to two of its competitors Agria* and Animal Friends.
You can also compare pet insurance via a comparison site such as MoneySuperMarket*. Comparison sites allow you to easily compare a multitude of pet insurance providers to find a policy that suits your pet. One thing to consider is that not all comparison sites are whole of market so you may be able to get a better deal elsewhere with a provider that does not feature on comparison sites such as Petplan. Our article, 'Best pet insurance in the UK in 2026' compares some of the best pet insurance providers.
Agria
Agria* differs from The Insurance Emporium by only offering lifetime insurance, however the cover levels go up as high as £20,000 per year. It is one of the more expensive providers of pet insurance but has an impressive Trustpilot score of 4.8 out of 5 and also boasts an 98% pay-out rate on claims (based on claims in 2025). You can pay for your insurance premium monthly at no extra cost and there is a multi-pet discount of 5%. Agria doesn't provide cover for pre-existing conditions and also impose a compulsory co-payment as your pet ages. There is also the option to pay a voluntary co-payment of either 10% or 20% to help reduce the cost of your premium. More information can be found in our independent Agria pet insurance review.
Animal Friends
Animal Friends offers every type of pet insurance except a stand alone public liability cover, with vet fee cover up to £18,000 per year and a range of excess options. There is no upper age limit for taking out new policies with Animal Friends, however there is a compulsory co-payment as your pet ages (20% when your dog turns 8 and your cat turns 10). Animal Friends do not cover pre-existing conditions nor offer a multi-pet discount. You do have the option to choose from several excess options to tailor the policy to suit your budget. More information can be found in our independent Animal Friends pet insurance review.

The Insurance Emporium pros and cons
The Insurance Emporium pet insurance pros
- Multiple policies to choose from
- 20% introductory discount
- 10% multi-pet discount
- Insurance for senior pets
The Insurance Emporium pet insurance cons
- Compulsory co-payment on Lifetime Bronze, Silver and Gold policies and for pets over 8 years old, a 25% co-payment is required on all policies (excluding public liability only)
- No vet video/phone line
- No option to pay your vet directly for any claim
Summary
The Insurance Emporium has a vast range of pet insurance policies to choose from so it is likely you will find a policy to suit your needs. You can also choose to add additional extras to your policy such as cover for euthanasia and cremation or cover when travelling to Europe. Unlike the majority of pet insurance providers it does not provide a 24/7 vet phone or video chat line which can prevent unnecessary trips to your vets nor does it offer the opportunity to pay your vet directly should you need to make a claim. For the range of cover, the cost of the monthly premiums is competitive in comparison to other providers. There is, however, a compulsory co-payment on some lifetime pet insurance policies (and all policies for pets over 8) which means that you have to pay a percentage of the vet fees in addition to the excess on the policy. The Insurance Emporium offers a generous introductory discount but it is worth bearing in mind this doesn't apply on renewal so your premium is likely to increase significantly.
As with all pet insurance policies it is advisable to shop around to ensure you are getting the best cover for your pet. Our article, 'Best pet insurance in the UK in 2026' compares some of the best pet insurance providers in the UK.
